Hydrocortisone 1% Ointment is a mild corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, redness, and itching caused by a range of skin conditions. It contains micronised hydrocortisone, which works by calming irritation and swelling on the skin’s surface.

This ointment formulation is ideal for dry, scaly, or thickened skin areas.

Suitable For

Used to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as:

• Eczema

• Dermatitis (including intertrigo between skin folds)

• Insect bite reactions

• Otitis externa (inflammation of the outer ear)

• Prurigo nodularis

• Neurodermatoses

• Nappy rash (when infection is already being treated)

How to Use

Adults:
Apply a thin layer 2–3 times daily, reducing use as symptoms improve.

Children & infants:
Use as directed by a healthcare professional. Treatment should not exceed 5–7 days, especially in nappy areas.
Do not use under nappies or airtight dressings unless advised by your doctor.

Always wash hands before and after use (unless treating the hands).

Do not use on the face for long periods unless specifically directed.

Warnings & Precautions

Do not use if:

• You are allergic to hydrocortisone or any ingredient in the product

• You have untreated skin infections such as fungal infections, cold sores, impetigo, chickenpox, shingles, or acne

• The skin is broken, ulcerated, or infected

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use if:

• You have psoriasis

• You plan to use it on the face

• You are treating a child

• The condition worsens, spreads, burns, or becomes redder

• You notice blurred vision

• You are pregnant or breastfeeding (do not apply to the chest when breastfeeding)

Fire hazard:
Ointments containing paraffin can soak into fabrics (bedding, clothing). Keep away from flames or smoking materials.

Possible Side Effects

Most people do not experience problems when used correctly.
Stop using and seek medical help immediately if you experience:

• Swelling of the face, lips or throat

• Difficulty breathing

• Skin rash or hives (signs of an allergic reaction)

Other side effects may include:

• Skin thinning, especially under dressings or in nappy areas

• Stretch marks or visible blood vessels

• Adrenal suppression with long-term use

• Blurred vision

• Steroid withdrawal reactions (redness, burning, stinging after stopping treatment)
